Fees & commission
Suppliers don’t pay us. You don’t pay us.
Most energy brokers are paid commission by the supplier, built into your unit rate. We currently aren’t — and we don’t charge you fees either.
Brokerage or service fee
Cancellation or admin fee
Supplier commission per kWh
What our terms say
ECO Utilities does not currently receive commission payments from energy suppliers or third parties for our business gas and electricity services, and does not charge customers a direct brokerage, service, cancellation or administration fee.
You remain responsible for what you owe your energy supplier under the contract you choose — consumption charges, standing charges and any other supplier charges.
If our remuneration arrangements or fees change, we’ll explain the arrangement clearly before it applies to you and obtain any agreement required. You can read this in section 8 of our Terms & Conditions.
Why it matters
Commission paid to brokers is usually added to your unit rate or standing charge. On a multi-year contract it can add up. Since October 2024, Ofgem’s rules require suppliers to disclose broker commission on non-domestic contracts when customers ask — and you should always ask any broker how they’re paid.
Questions to ask any broker
FAQs
Follow the money.
If you don’t charge fees or take commission, how do you make money?
Right now, we’re building our customer base and don’t earn from the energy contracts we help arrange. If that changes — for example if we start receiving supplier commission — we’ll explain the arrangement clearly before it applies to you and get any agreement required.
Will I pay more on my energy bill because I used ECO Utilities?
Under our current arrangements, no broker commission is added to the rates you’re quoted, because we don’t receive any.
Do I pay to cancel an application?
No. We don’t charge our own cancellation or administration fee for withdrawing an application. Any charges under a supplier contract you’ve already accepted are set by that supplier.
What are the Ofgem rules on broker commission?
Suppliers must disclose broker commission on non-domestic energy contracts when customers ask, for contracts signed from 1 October 2024. In our case there is currently nothing to disclose.
