Business gas prices for kitchens, boilers and everything that burns.
Commercial gas is priced mainly on how much you use in a year. We use your real consumption to get quotes from UK suppliers, then explain every rate and term before anything is agreed.
What drives a gas quote
Four things move the price. You control two of them.
Usage and timing are yours to manage. Market prices and network costs aren’t — but when you buy matters.
Annual usage (AQ)
The single biggest factor. Accurate meter reads keep it honest.
Contract start date
Agreeing early locks today’s prices for your renewal date.
Wholesale market
Gas prices move daily, which is why quotes have short validity.
Network & levies
Transportation charges and the Climate Change Levy, set outside the supplier.
Renewal timing
The worst time to look at your gas contract is the week it ends.
- 1
Several months out. Check your end date and any notice period in your current contract.
- 2
Request quotes. Prices are valid for a short time, so compare and decide promptly.
- 3
Agree your new contract to start the day the old one ends — no gap, no out-of-contract rates.
- 4
Diarise the next one. We keep your renewal date on file and get in touch ahead of time.
Business gas FAQs
Before you sign.
Where do I find my MPRN?
On your gas bill, often labelled “Meter Point Reference Number” or “M number”. It’s usually 6 to 10 digits long.
What is an AQ (annual quantity)?
Your annual quantity is the industry’s estimate of how much gas your site uses in a year. Suppliers price on it, so an out-of-date AQ can mean a less accurate quote. Regular meter readings keep it accurate.
Do I pay VAT at 5% or 20% on business gas?
Most businesses pay 20%. If your average gas use is under 145 kWh a day, or you’re a charity using gas for non-business purposes, the 5% rate may apply. Your supplier applies VAT.
Does the Climate Change Levy apply to gas?
Yes. The Climate Change Levy applies to business gas as well as electricity. Rates are set by the government and updated each April, and some businesses qualify for relief.
Can I have gas and electricity with different suppliers?
Yes. Dual-fuel deals are convenient, but separate suppliers can sometimes work out cheaper. We’ll show you both where available.
