Business insurance FAQs
Good to know.
Is employers’ liability insurance a legal requirement?
If you employ staff, the law generally requires it, with at least £5 million of cover from an authorised insurer. Some exemptions apply, for example to some family businesses.
Is public liability insurance a legal requirement?
No, but it’s often a condition of a lease, a venue booking or a client contract. If the public visits your premises or you work on site, it’s usually worth having.
What is business interruption cover?
It covers lost income and extra costs if an insured event — like a fire or flood — stops you trading for a while.
What details will I need for a quote?
Your trade, turnover, number of staff, premises details, the value of stock and equipment, and any claims in the last five years.
